Week 8 - Christmas in the playground

Week 8 was super busy preparing for our performance at Christmas in the Playground!!!

Here are some of the highlights from our event on Friday

Week 7 - Foaming Fountain & Kiwi sport Basketball

On Monday we did our fortnightly science experiment! This one was super exciting. We mixed dish washing liquid, hydrogen peroxide and yeast together. When the yeast and the hydrogen peroxide mixed together they REACTED! It caused the all the liquid to flow out of the bottle. The bottle got real warm after as well, it was an exothermic reaction.  

Our Kiwisport couch came for another half hour of basketball training! We were learning to dribble and pass the ball!

Week 7 - Santa Heads!

Every Friday we are doing an exciting Christmas creation! Today we made Santa heads. We cut out our own triangle and then painted it. After we cut a circle in our paper plates and stapled it all together. Some of the students made a little beard for their Santa! See the pictures below.

Week 6 - Christmas Tree Making

Christmas is coming! Room 8 is getting ready for Christmas by making a new Christmas decoration each week! On Friday morning we made Christmas trees out of Popsicle sticks. We glued them together in the morning and after singing assembly we painted them! Next week we will decorate them and start creating a new Christmas decoration. 

Week 5 - Athletics Day

On Tuesday we had Athletics Day. In the morning Awa (Junior School) had their turn at long jump, high jump, throwing, sprinting and a special sponge bob activity.

Week 4 - Rangoli Art

Thursday afternoon we had our Diwali House competition. Each class completed a Rangoli Pattern outside each class with chalk and in the hall each house was completing a Rangoli Art Pattern.

Week 4 - ROOM 8 CLASS OF THE WEEK

Room 8 started the week off with great news! We won the Awa Class of the Week Trophy! Room 8 have been working hard all week on their behaviour and working hard in class. 

Every Monday after lunch we have swimming time! Monday we had a first swim, the sun was shining down and we had lots of fun.

Week 3 - River comes to class

Each week in Awa a class gets to take River the Teddy into the class. This week it was Room 8s turned. Our theme was SHARING. Here are some photos of Room 8 sharing our learning and fun in class.

On Thursday we were learning about measurement! We used playdough to make worms and we measured our worms with unifix cubes!

Week 2 - Kiwisport Basketball and Science Experiment

Monday we did our first science experiment. We mixed oil and food colouring into water and watched the oil rise to the top and the food colouring move around the cup. We our writing about it and described what we saw!

Kiwisport started this week and we have been focusing on basketball skills! Each student got to practice some basic basketball skills today.

Week 1 - Writing about bats!

Week 1 we were straight back into our learning! We have been reading our shared book "A bat is a bat". We were really excited by this story, we watched a special clip on YouTube about bats! We learnt many things about bats. Here are some of the students writing below.

Week 9 - END OF TERM

The last week of term we had our amazing school production - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There were two performances, one show during the day and one Thursday night performance. Both shows were exceptional!

Each night there was a raffle draw for a chocolate hamper! Zainab from Room 8 was one of the lucky winners!

On Friday for the last day of the term, we did a writing piece about the things we enjoyed this term and what we would like to get better at. After Mr Sheaff filmed each of the students reading their writing pieces.

Week 8 - Marble Art and Duffy Books

The Term is flying by! Week 8 is done. On Monday we did some exciting marble art. Mr Sheaff spayed shaving foam all over the desks and the students used droppers to put colours into the foam. After they pushed their pieces of paper onto the foam.

Friday we had spent time reading our new books we got from Duffy Books in Schools. Everyone completed a Duffy Book Review and wrote what they liked about their book they received.

Week 7 - Oral Language Confidence

On Friday we spent the morning learning about what confidence means. We discussed as a class what it means and then drew pictures of what we were confident at. After Mr Sheaff filmed each student talking about their picture and some went on to define what confidence means. Here is the video below.

Week 6 - Exploratorium Field Trip

On Thursday we made a trip to the Exploratorium out in Henderson. IT WAS AMAZING. All the students were engaged with heaps of fun and interesting activities, experiments and arts n crafts. Each station had an activity and an explanation of why/how it works.

Week 5 - Science Experiment

On Monday our class did a science experiment with soda water and pasta. The first class we put just pasta into a normal class of water and the pasta sunk to the bottom. (not very exciting) Mr Sheaff poured a soda water into a jug and then dropped pasta into the jug. The pasta sunk to the bottom but then the pasta jumped back up to the top. It was the bubbles in the soda water that is pushing the pasta back to the top! Here is the video below!

Week 4 - Duffy Theatre

On Friday we had special guests from Duffy books! They performed an awesome play for us.

There were only three people in the show but they played multiple characters and did an amazing job! Check out the highlights below!

Week 4 - learning update

Hello everyone!

Week 4 has been a busy week so far! On Tuesday Mr Sheaff got some new puzzles to be used during reading time, they included some traditional style puzzles and also some "Word Puzzles". Another new game maths game was introduced, which is DICE Addition. See the wonderful completed work below.

For Reading we have been focusing on different sounds words can make, see Nathaniel's completed Digraph worksheet! 

Marae Trip Week 3

Today Awa (Junior School) went on our marae trip to Orakei. We were welcomed onto the marae and learnt a new powhiri. The marae was very beautiful with many carvings. A very safe and successful trip.

Term 3 Week 2 Science Experiment

Today for writing we did a science experiment. We had three different types of liquids. We learnt today that each liquid had a different weight. If it was heavy it would sink to the bottom, if it was light it would rise to the top.

We poured syrup (which was heavy), water (which is light) and oil (which is really LIGHT).

The yellow oil floated to the top and the syrup stayed at the bottom. The water stayed in the middle.

After we completed the experiment we did our writing about it!

Term 3 Week 1 - Attitude is everything

We are learning about attitude this term. We are learning how important it is to have a good attitude. Here are two videos showing our learning.

Paulina has written on the board "Attitude is about a feeling when you decide how to act". Sadly there is no sound with the video.

Also as a class we learnt about what attitude means.

"ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING"
