Duffy Books!

Today we had our first Duffy Books Assembly!
Each child got two free books. Each term our students will get TWO new books to read! They get to take these books home to keep! We hope this new program will inspire more AWESOME kids in the Glen to read more at home.

After our assembly we put some special time aside to read our books and share them with our class mates! Here are the photos below!
At the Duffy Assembly, we had a famous actor speak to us. Her name was Jodie Rimmer, she read us a book and shared some thoughts about how we should share our feelings. See the YouTube clip for highlights.

Diet Coke and Mentos

For our writing experience today we went out onto the school field and mixed Diet Coke and Mentos together. The kids predicted their would be an explosion by mixing them together.

Week 7 in Room 8

Room 8 has another busy week! Tuesday we went swimming, we were practicing floating on our backs in the water!

Music on Tuesday with Mr Osborne, we looked at making different sounds with our bodies.

Friday we visited the library and spent some quality time reading.

Haka Powhiri at Singing Assembly

Today Glenavon School was practicing the Haka Powhiri! Thanks to Mr O'Connor for leading the school.

Today Gary from ASB visited Room 8. He taught us about saving for our needs and wants. We learnt that when we earn money, we should put money aside for some money to share, to spend and to save.

Camila showed us what she would if she was earning money!

We all got ASB Getwise bracelets at the end of the session.

Week 6 Review

It was another fantastic week in the Glen!

Friday morning was a bit wet but that didn't stop Te whānau awa doing our sports. We put on some zumba dance tracks in the hall and got moving!

Room 8 had the following winners at Assembly and the Class Dojo Raffle. Hannah, Zhi Xi and Camila won awards for being caring kids in the Glen. Zainab won the Class Dojo star of the week, for her awesome efforts in writing independently and with the teacher. 

Every Tuesday afternoon we go swimming, here is a little clip of Room 8 showing off their skills in the water.

Kiwisport on Monday

On Monday we had our weekly Kiwisport in the morning. We played a slightly different version of duck duck goose!
